Ly Son – The official establishment of Ly Son as a Special Administrative Zone starting from July 1, 2025, brings new hopes for a breakthrough in development for this island gem in the open sea, a location of national strategic importance.
On June 30, 2025, at the Quang Ngai Provincial Convention and Exhibition Center, the Quang Ngai Provincial Party Committee held a solemn ceremony to announce various Central and local Resolutions and Decisions regarding the merger of administrative units at provincial and communal levels, the termination of district-level administrative units, and the formation of new Party organizations, appointment of Party committees, People’s Councils, People’s Committees, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committees at the provincial and communal levels.

Notably, it was announced that under the Central Government’s Decision, from July 1, 2025, Ly Son island district, Quang Ngai Province, is officially designated as the Ly Son Special Administrative Zone.
Accordingly:
- Mr. Nguyen Minh Tri is appointed Secretary of the Party Committee of Ly Son Special Zone.

Mr. Nguyen Minh Tri, born in 1970, is originally from Hanh Thien commune, Nghia Hanh district, Quang Ngai province. Ly Son is the only island district located in the northeast of Quang Ngai province, about 15 nautical miles from the mainland, with a natural area of more than 10.39 km² (including Big Island and Small Island) and a population of over 24,000 people. The local population mainly relies on fishing, agriculture, tourism services, and small-scale handicrafts.

In recent years, Ly Son has seen strong development in tourism, commerce, and services. From a traditional coastal lifestyle centered around offshore fishing and farming shallots and garlic, the local community has gradually shifted toward tourism and service sectors.
